Product Description
Boomers, Gen-Xers, Seniors and more everyone has a dream of that long trip that they ve had in the back of their mind. If so many dream it, why do so few do it?

Authors Phil and Carol White believe it is not only fear of the unknown, but more importantly, inertia. It takes a fair amount of thinking and planning to take off for an extended period says Carol, but the rewards of working through your issues and actually getting out of town to see our country or another place, will be with you forever. Don t wait for some other time start planning now.

The White s award-winning, how-to book, Live Your Road Trip Dream is now released in its second edition after a very successful three printings of the first edition. Due to the popularity of road tripping, but not just amongst the retired set, the White s have included expanded coverage of topics of interest to the younger generation.

Today s younger generations aren t waiting until retirement to hit the road says Phil, they want to do it now if they can figure out how. With our expanded sections on sabbaticals, working on the road and road-schooling for children, we ve covered many of the topics that we get asked about frequently.

And the Whites do get asked often. As National Spokespersons for the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, they speak at such prestigious conferences as AARP s Life@50+, and attend national conventions like The Good Sam Club s Great North American RV Rally, and talk to the press frequently as experts on road tripping. The Whites are also frequent guests on TV and radio and have been featured speakers for AAA in their home state of Oregon.

Live Your Road Trip Dream is more than an inspiring adventure, more than an information-packed how-to guide to help you turn your personal travel dream into reality it is the ultimate handbook to turn your wanderlust into action.

3 out of 5 stars Too General and Dated   September 5, 2010
C. Cooling (Texas, USA)
While reading about Phil and Carol's adventure was entertaining, I found the practical information somewhat limited in scope. It dealt with budgeting in a pretty general way, and did not really address financing such a trip at all, other than selling or renting out your house. Workamping and working from your RV was not dealt with.
Also, as their trip was c.2000, the material is quite dated on anything dealing with technology.
This book is written from the perspective of retired seniors taking a one year road trip of a lifetime, not full time RVing.

5 out of 5 stars Read the book, taking a trip!   July 25, 2010

I found your book about a year ago...
I've always wanted to take a trip around the USA, one of my retirement
dreams... However at 47, I had a baby (yes, 47) and figured, that was it,
tied to home for another 20 years... Will I be too old to travel? Will they
still give us a driving license? Then I thought... maybe when she is in 2nd
or 3rd grade(want to make sure SOMEBODY taught her how to read!) before she
gets into all her friends, sports etc... But I could never get Jeff and
Alisa to say yes at the same time, and I knew that unless the were "both in"
there would be no trip... I was smart enough not to "make" anyone go. There
would (will) be some rough times and damn it, it's not going to be ALL my
Thanks, Terry
fault :)
The other problem was the money thing, how could this possibly work on a
fixed income and a husband not working for a year? That's when I found your
book... It re-opened up the desire and the reality that this could actually
work!
Your book is the only one that gives the hard, cold information that one
needs... Not just the highlights of where to go, what to see, we can all
figure that out. This book talks about insurance, getting a sabbatical from
clubs, getting someone to take your mail, renting your house with sample
ads... This info gave me the guts to bring it up to the family one more
time... And you know what, they both said YES!
I moved into gear, Craig's List got us the "perfect renter", someone looking
for a house for the EXACT time that we wanted to be gone. After that, things
just seemed to fall into place. I've got the house pared down to the bare
minimum (almost like moving, what a GREAT feeling, so much lighter), all the
accounts on-line, oh yes, bought a great motor home (BIGFOOT 2004, 29 feet),
took some "shake down trips", got the older "kids" to get on board and be
supportive. AMAZING!!
We are about a month out from leaving... We live in Portland also, couldn't
think of a good reason to leave Portland in the summer, so we are leaving
end of August and returning mid-June 2011.
I've been thinking of writing you both a not, so here it is. Wish us luck,
we will need it. I might need to go to Powell's, I saw on your website you
have written a second edition including info on "road-schooling", we are set
for that, but I could use a few tips!
Thanks, Terry Folen

5 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know!   May 1, 2010
James D. Rich (Glendale, AZ)
RV the World Whoa! My wife and I have RVed the World for 17 years and still haven't accumulated the sheer practical detail Phil and Carol White have crammed into their book, Living Your Road Trip Dream. They have laid it all out, EVERYTHING anyone needs to know to plan the trip of a lifetime and to escape the rat race for a whole year from dealing with houses back home (something we never had to worry about), finances and budgeting to placating dependent friends, relatives and associates bereft at one's absence for an entire year, which is also something our friends and relatives have never seemed to mind. Half the book is how to do it and the other half is a travelogue taking the reader along on the year the authors spent gallivanting around the country. Grab it and you'll never have to worry about travel planning again!

Thank you, Carol & Phil White! While we read your book we wore out our yellow highlighter! Our favorite aspects of this book are: the descriptions of the important considerations to decide upon before seriously planning such a trip, the variety of solutions that are offered to different situations (other than those of the authors), the Master Budget worksheet, and all the checklists (which are now a permanent part of our planning binder!). Each time we make a new decision, we update the budget worksheet and have a clearer idea of our trip needs.

We also appreciated your enthusiasm and encouraging spirit about taking a trip to enhance our life experience. We wish you continued amazing adventures!
